
The 2012 Domestic Violence in the Workplace Conference will take place October 10, 2012 at The Home Depot headquarters from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This conference is a unique training opportunity for managers, Human Resource professionals and other critical stakeholders to learn more about the issue of intimate partner violence, and how it impacts the workplace. Participants will leave with a thorough understanding of the steps employers can take to ensure the safety of their employees, and how to address the issue should DV/IPV present itself in the workplace. Attendees will also be offered the post-conference services of the PADV staff in the development of their respective plan of action as a result of the day-long conference. An invite only Leadership Breakfast sponsored by Belk is slated for 7:30 am, the breakfast will be hosted by Carol Tomé, CFO of Home Depot and will feature Martha Delehanty, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Verizon and Kerry Kohnen, President of Kaiser Permanente, Georgia. What to Expect
Morning Breakout Session
Attendees will be invited to participate in our morning breakout session of Domestic Violence 101- This discussion-based presentation will directly address types of intimate partner violence, myths surrounding the issue and the barriers victims face in attempting to leave these relationships.
A Legal Panel
The panel will address questions of liability and risk empolyers face when deciding to involve themselves in the issue of domestic violence. Diane Prucino with Kilpatrick Townsend, Michelle W. Johnson with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough and Allen W. Nelson with Crawford & Company will be facilitating the discussion. There will also be a time of Q &A.
An Experts Panel
This panel will focus on the how to address the issue of intimate partner violence as a employer. As well as how to support a victim of abuse. This panel will be comprised of Brigid McCaw with Kaiser Permanente, Ken Dolan-Del Vecchio with Prudential Insurance and Martha Delehanty with Verizon. These individuals have exhibited a strong commitment to tackling domestic violence head-on. There will also be a time of Q &A.
Afternoon Breakout Sessions
Attendees will be invited to participate in a breakout session based on the size of their company.
- Small Employers will hear from Nicole Morgan of Automobile Protection Corporation (APCO)
- Medium Employers will hear from Troy Bond of Atlanta Medical Center
- Large Employers will hear from Ken Dolan-DelVecchio of Prudential
Each session will be supported by a “tool-kit” that will serve as a great thought-starter to drive the discussion between the facilitator and attendees. Each of the facilitators will be talking about their experiences in putting together a plan of action and will speak to the beginning steps attendees might consider when thinking about a company-wide initiative to roll out some elements of domestic/ intimate partner violence.
