Shelter Services

Women and their children are assigned an advocate within 72 hours of their arrival to the shelter. Our staff and volunteer advocates coordinate services for the women and children that support the goals and objectives set forth by our clients. The first principle of recovery from abuse is the empowerment of the survivor. A survivor must be the author and arbiter of her own recovery. PADV’s guiding principle of recovery is to restore power and control to the survivor.

PADV provides the following programs to women and their children who seek emergency shelter.

• Parenting Groups
• Children and Youth Program
• Legal Advocacy
• Support Groups for Women and their Children
• Public Benefits Assistance (including TANF and SNAP)

PADV is committed to providing:

• Support and an understanding of the dynamics and causes of domestic violence and the societal barriers that may hinder a woman's attempts to live violence free; advocacy to overcome those barriers

• Restoration of control and decision-making
• Belief in and respect for the victim's strengths, abilities, and desire for self-determination.
