Two Heroes Lost

At PADV, when we work with all our hearts to end domestic violence, we do that for all the harm and destruction caused by this evil crime. We know the circle of devastation and loss reaches far outside survivors and their families.

Today our tears fall for two heroes. Two Georgia law enforcement officers gave their life in the line of duty this week, protecting domestic violence victims and working to bring safety to all of us. Jackson County Deputy Lena Nicole Marshall and Henry County Officer Paramhans Desai were both shot and killed when responding to domestic violence calls. We honor them, we mourn them, we embrace their families. In heartfelt support for their courage and strength, we pledge to work even harder!

For years, advocates from domestic violence agencies across the state of Georgia have been working to pass a law that would remove firearms from those with a temporary protective order against them or convicted of a family violence crime. This creates safety for all parties impacted by domestic violence. This creates safety for our law enforcement officers. Both Deputy Marshall and Officer Desai were killed by guns. We honor their lives and the lives of all our first responders when we reduce the risk of the tragedy of these deaths. Be a part of the change, use your voice, join the work.
