In Georgia, intimate partner violence (IPV) is deeply linked to mental health crises and fatalities. Statewide reviews indicate that roughly 20% of all suicides involve intimate partner problems, and about 37% of domestic violence perpetrators had a known history of suicide threats or attempts. (dbhdd.ga.gov)

According to the 2025 Fatality Review:

Domestic-violence related fatalities increased by nearly 4%.

Approximately 4 in 5 domestic-violence related fatalities are committed with a firearm.

Domestic violence-related murder-suicide incidents increased by more than 80%.

On average, over once a day in the U.S., someone kills an intimate partner and then dies by suicide.

After completing the program, participants will:

  • Receive a certificate of completion for:
    • QPR (question, persuade, refer) Training
    • Common causes of suicidal behavior and myths surrounding suicide.
    • Recognizing both verbal and non-verbal warning signs.
    • How to properly ask the suicide question without increasing risk.
    • Guided role-play exercises and discussions to build confidence.
  • And be able to:
    • Identify and apply available resources and best practices for the treatment and support of individuals impacted by domestic violence, ensuring evidence-based and client-centered approaches.
    • Demonstrate strategies for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among professionals working with victims of domestic violence, including advocates, mental health professionals,  medical and legal professionals to review a recommended coordinated response, addressing the intersection of domestic violence and MH concerns.
